Yarn along

I finished the overalls and moved on to making a knitted elephant.  I also just finished this little profound book.  I heard it is also a movie, but after finishing the book I do not think I am up for the movie.  I would however completely recommend the book, especially if you do not already know the ending.

The past three days

I finished Hadley’s overalls!

She does not like them… they are a bit big and hot, but they should be perfect for fall.  She did humor me and wear them for a little while on Thursday.  This was the last day of tennis camp for Drew and Phoebe.

This was the wettest camp session they have ever had (in the last 35 years!) and the final day was again inside, thankfully they had a big gym to use that day.  Drew took home camp champ for his group this year, things like that always make a mama proud.  I really liked how his coach said Drew was not necessarily the best player in the group, but he always tried his hardest and cheered others on.

We spent the rest of that rainy afternoon home making good things to eat.   I tried this recipe (minus the brown sugar… it was plenty sweet with just the honey… and I added in ground flax and dried cherries) The kids liked helping me push in a few chocolate chips as it was cooling.  It was really cute to watch them sneak a few and to think I was not watching.

Today we had a beautiful sunny day and we decided to go down to the farmers market.  We gave the kids a 10$ bill and told them they needed to buy a vegetable for all of us for dinner (one that they would in fact eat themselves) and then they could split the money after that and spend it however they liked.

They chose broccoli and the man even had Drew calculate the change.. 7$.  Drew quickly figured out they each had 3.50$ left to spend. They chose to buy cupcakes for themselves and then save the rest.

Then we were off to the nature center for their family day.  We arrived just in time to learn about raptors from a woman from wings of wonder.

It has been a great weekend so far.  Tomorrow there is an ice cream social at the community sailing center and also something called ‘log cabin days’ out at the old mission lighthouse.  We are definitely keeping busy with all of these great things to do here in our little community.

Yarn Along

I know you are all getting tired of the overalls.. I am too! I had to pull out a few rows last week and I procrastinated.. but now I am really trying to get them done.  I am pretty close to being able to cast off the sides and then it does get complicated… But I think I have the brainpower as Hadley is officially and all night sleeper… yea!
And this little book is funny.. It really does not apply to my girls, they have not been sucked into the princess culture (yet?) but I still can not stop reading it. Hope you are all having a good week!

Yarn along

I am slowly plugging along on Hadley’s overalls. I guess I have made pretty good progress in the past three weeks. I have also just started this book.. It is supposed to be one of the easiest books to digest about Steiner. I do still think it will be a heavy read, but definitely worthwhile.

Yarn along

I have taken out a few of my drawing books to look through again. I am thinking we might end this year with a form drawing block– that is how we started the year (and I did not do much in-between) so it seems fitting. I have also started on these for Hadley.. Oh my I think this is the cutest knitting pattern ever!!  I chose yarn in the same color as her two current favorite foods… strawbubies and atachup.  She has even been known to eat them together.
In other news — Drew and Phoebe are currently outside sledding in the foot of snow that fell last night. Phoebe is pretty worried the Easter bunny won’t find his way.. and honestly, so am I!

Bunny love

I finished this little knitted bunny this morning. It is a very rainy day and I am excited to have an excuse not to wash my windows… I guess I will just have to knit instead!  Andy is off working on Ecomowers and we are having a lazy day at home.

I think Hadley approves of her new toy.  Sorry for the blur… she kept jumping it around.   She has been so sweet lately.  She even thanked Andy when he gave her a hug this morning as he was off to the warehouse.  Well, now I think I am going to start on some legwarmers, and maybe some soup.  This is my kind of day!

Crafty

Today we spent the better part of the day making things. First we started out by making a double batch of laundry soap and then we made these

They are dyed eggshells filled with beeswax and a wick to make a candle. They burn so perfectly and even leave the shell intact.

Hadley had fun decorating her belly with the stickers from the dye kit.

Then Drew went off on his own for a while (maybe two hours??) and then he came back in for scissors and yarn (which is not an uncommon thing for him to do…). But, he shocked us all when he returned with this and a very proud face

He is all set with his new firebolt! He even carved the whole handle. Away he goes!

It was a great day!

Superstar

We made these ‘shooting stars’ today for birthday gifts for friends. They are wool felt stars filled with rice. They are so much fun! They really do shoot across the room when you throw them. Drew and Phoebe are going to a Harry Potter birthday party tomorrow and they are both very excited.
