Bunny love

I finished this little knitted bunny this morning. It is a very rainy day and I am excited to have an excuse not to wash my windows… I guess I will just have to knit instead!  Andy is off working on Ecomowers and we are having a lazy day at home.

I think Hadley approves of her new toy.  Sorry for the blur… she kept jumping it around.   She has been so sweet lately.  She even thanked Andy when he gave her a hug this morning as he was off to the warehouse.  Well, now I think I am going to start on some legwarmers, and maybe some soup.  This is my kind of day!

Snowed in!!

The wind is ripping by at 40/50mph, there are four foot drifts in the driveway (over the hood of my jeep), the older children only last a few minutes every time they try to go outside. I’d say we are snowed in today! I love snowstorms.. and while I would rather we had a little more food on hand, we will still have a grand time today.

Acting out the book ‘Caps for Sale’

Spinning in the chair

Playing the guitar we found under the bed! Drew has already successfully taught me how to play twinkle twinkle little star

And munching on the good food we do have here .. we will not starve… we have the staples, I am just craving a garlicky warm soup or something similar to accompany this snowstorm. We also have many stories, a deck of cards, pattern blocks, a warm bath and possibly even a nap planned into our day. Tomorrow we will ski. That will be awesome!

Yarn Along

A yarn along to follow Ginny over at Small Things

Here is what I am knitting and reading at the moment… an amazing book (manual) on the 6 year change– really good.  Also here is a pair of slippers knit in two days time– there is nothing like knitting with a deadline.  And of course– Hadley’s sweater coat… it is coming along… but I messed up the sleeve and I need to pull out 6 or so rows, so that is a bit daunting.  Maybe tonight I will get to it.  Have a great Wednesday!

Friday

Just a quick hello… We watched an amazing movie tonight called Duma. I saw it listed as an African children’s movie and I took a chance on watching it. It was rated PG– and there were a few intense parts- but very wonderful overall. Even Andy was wiping his eyes at the end.
Also I have started a new knitting project, a spring sweater coat for Hadley. It is fun to knit something so little as compared to Drew’s big sweater.

Well, we are looking forward to a fun weekend with a lot of skiing and a few house chores. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Its monday again

Funny how the weeks can pass so quickly. Saturday morning I went out to knit at a local knitting store. It was so nice to sit for an hour or so and have a little time with adults. Drew’s sweater is coming along so well. I really can not believe I am knitting a sweater– and it is not hard!

Here it is as of yesterday.. But since then I have finished that sleeve and started on the other. Saturday afternoon Andy took the kids skiing and he had a cranky Phoebe.. It seems she was sick because Sunday morning she woke up sick to her stomach. She spent all of yesterday bundled up on the couch. When Phoebe is sick she is very quiet. It was such a sad day without her little voice and body bouncing around. Thankfully today she is almost back to herself. There is not much bouncing but at least she is talking!
Today we started working with a new style of handwriting for Drew. This book is very nice and I love the script. Drew said he is excited to make letters with “all the flowing loops”

I also made up these letter cards to have out and available while practicing our letters.

Since we were home all day we also tackled an artsy project. I saw a website once where they had turned old wool sweaters into cat beds. We happened to have two beautiful wool sweaters that both Drew and Phoebe would not wear… too itchy unfortunately. So we sewed them up and stuffed them and voilà … A very happy and lucky kitty.

I also salvaged the buttons from the sweaters to use on the sweater I am knitting for Drew (and other projects I have in line).
Now we are settling in for dinner, I made a very garlicy chicken soup. Hopefully it will help Phoebe get all better and help the rest of us stay well!

This week

We have slowed down this week. We have been home and crafting and reading and knitting. This week we have been reading stories of St Lucia.

This is a beautiful story. We also read another story from the Seven Year Old Wonder Book and one from a book called Finnish Folk Tales. We are learning this very simple poem this week

And we are crafting like little elves! Handmade almond soap

And wool braided trivets

And of course we are doing fun things like finding our belly buttons

And decorating our tree

Tomorrow we all go to the dentist. Phoebe is brushing her teeth over and over right now. Hopefully we all get a good report tomorrow!

Crafty

Yesterday Drew sat down next to me and sweetly asked if he could have a new knitting project. And, well.. He did not have to twist my arm to go to the knitting store. :)

He chose a beautiful skein and he wants to start on our family blanket. I read somewhere about a family all knitting squares out of mismatched and scrap yarn and building a beautiful patchwork style blanket. I love this idea and I am so happy Drew is starting on the first square.

Today we attempted (with great success!) to make beeswax lanterns. These were very fun, especially when it came time to pop the water balloons

The holiday crafting has begun!

Little hands

For the last couple of nights I have been showing Drew how to knit. He has picked it up so well.

He has decided to make a scarf for his cow, and then he hopes to make a scarf for himself.

It is good to see him struggle with his fingers and figure it out. Speaking of fingers… Haddie is figuring out her fingers too

She loves the challenge of picking up tiny tiny bits of food. It is amazing to watch them both discover their hands in a new way.
